Nest boxes are human-made, wooden structures designed to provide a space for cavity-nesting birds and other wildlife (for example, flying squirrels) to lay their eggs or raise their young. Although birds and other cavity-nesting wildlife may prefer natural cavities over human-made nest boxes, a well-constructed and well-placed nest box can provide an excellent home.
