Year-round range is throughout nearly all of the United States
Large, common hawk with brownish feathering on head and back and light-colored feathering on chest and belly, with a band of brownish feathers across chest. Tail feathers are reddish-brown on top and white underneath.
Habitat includes open areas interspersed with wooded areas.
